Barcelona Explores New Solution to Sign European Champion

Barcelona is considering a solution to acquire one of the players who won the Euro 2024 title with Spain. Reports have previously indicated that Hans Flick, Barcelona's coach, has requested the signing of Mikel Merino, midfielder for Real Sociedad. According to the Spanish newspaper "Sport," those close to Mikel Merino are already aware of Barcelona's interest in signing the player, but as of today, there is no official offer.

The report also noted that Merino is attracting interest from Arsenal and Atlético Madrid this summer, and the player may wait until the end of the summer transfer window to choose his new club. It clarified that the potential value of the Merino deal would be €25 million, especially since the player's contract expires in the summer of 2025.

Barcelona is considering offering one of its defenders to Sociedad as part of the Merino deal to reduce the overall cost. The names being discussed to enter the deal include Clément Lenglet, Eric Garcia, Inigo Martínez, and Mika Foy. Barcelona aims to take advantage of the fact that Sociedad will lose its standout defender, Ruben Le Normand, to Atlético Madrid, and thus will seek to compensate with a new defender.
