Biden to Visit American Cemetery in France Not Visited by Trump in 2018

U.S. President Joe Biden and his wife Jill will conclude their trip to France today, Sunday, with a visit to an American cemetery that former President Donald Trump did not visit in 2018, which had garnered widespread criticism. Biden and his wife are set to visit the American Cemetery in Enn Marne in Belleau, located about 85 kilometers east of Paris, to honor American soldiers who were killed in World War I.

Democrat Biden is competing against Republican Trump in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections scheduled for November. In 2018, the White House during Trump's administration stated that the then-president, who was also in France, could not visit the cemetery due to bad weather and sent his Chief of Staff John Kelly instead to attend in light rain.

Biden is concluding a five-day visit in which he commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day with World War II veterans in Normandy and also made an official state visit to Paris. In response to a question last week regarding Biden's visit to the American cemetery, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said, "It's not just the president, is it? He's the Commander-in-Chief."
