Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona's coach, is experiencing crucial hours regarding his future with the club for the upcoming season. Xavi had initially announced his departure from Barcelona but later reversed his decision and agreed with club president Joan Laporta to stay.
However, Xavi's recent statements about the team's inability to compete with Real Madrid and other major European clubs due to the club's economic situation have irked Laporta, who is contemplating retracting his agreement with the coach. According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Laporta insists on sacking Xavi and not continuing with him next season.
The report indicated that Laporta's anger stems from Xavi changing his promises; when the coach visited the president's house to discuss his continuation on April 24, he claimed he saw himself capable of competing and fighting for everything with the team next season.
It was clarified that "Laporta has not yet made a decision to dismiss Xavi because Deco (the sporting director) was in Portugal due to an urgent personal commitment. Deco will provide a report on Xavi to Laporta before the final decision is made."
The report also mentioned that Laporta met with his deputy Rafa Yuste, executive director Soler, and advisor Enric Masip, and they agreed that it would be logical not to announce Xavi's dismissal before speaking with him. "Mundo Deportivo" noted that a decisive meeting about Xavi's future will be held tomorrow, Sunday, with Laporta and Deco present, following Barcelona's match against Rayo Vallecano in the 37th (second to last) round of the league.
Furthermore, it was added that "Laporta currently insists on not continuing with Hernandez, but on the other hand, Deco has always supported Xavi's continuation, especially after discussing it with him in a private meeting before the official announcement of the decision."
