America Imposes New Sanctions Related to Iran

The United States imposed new sanctions related to Iran on Tuesday, targeting individuals and entities linked to the Iranian Ministry of Defense and the armed forces, according to a post on the U.S. Treasury Department's website. The statement noted that those targeted by the new measures form a "shadow banking network" used by the Iranian Ministry of Defense, the armed forces, and the Revolutionary Guard, all of which are under U.S. sanctions. The Treasury Department added that the network has assisted the Iranian Ministry of Defense and the Revolutionary Guard in accessing the international financial system and conducting operations amounting to billions of dollars since 2020. The Iranian Ministry of Defense and the Revolutionary Guard primarily obtain funds through the sale of oil and petrochemicals.
