Meeting in Baghdad for Foreign Oil Companies in Kurdistan

The Kurdistan Regional Government announced its intention to send a delegation from the government, along with foreign oil companies operating in the region, to Baghdad for a meeting concerning the resumption of oil exports via the Turkish port of Ceyhan. During the Kurdistan government's Council of Ministers meeting held today, Wednesday, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the negotiating delegation discussed the meetings, efforts, and measures to resume oil exports, noting that discussions with the federal government continue to expedite the export process as soon as possible, according to a statement.

The statement mentioned that a delegation from the Kurdistan government and the oil companies is scheduled to visit Baghdad at the beginning of next week at the invitation of the federal Ministry of Oil to discuss finding a mechanism to overcome all obstacles that hinder the resumption of oil exports, which have unfortunately caused billions of dollars in losses to the governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region since the export process was suspended in March of last year.

The meeting emphasized the directives of the Council of Ministers to the negotiating delegation, which stipulate confirming the serious stance of the Kurdistan Regional Government in its efforts to reach a comprehensive and balanced agreement as soon as possible and in accordance with the constitution to resume the region's oil exports through the (SOMO) company and deposit its revenues in the public treasury, ensuring that this is based on constitutional foundations and consideration of the region's unique circumstances and authorities.

On May 28, the Ministry of Oil called for a meeting "as soon as possible" with the Kurdish Ministry of Energy and the foreign companies operating in Kurdistan to reach an agreement regarding the resumption of oil exports via the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
