"Yasa" reiterated in a statement its call to the Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government and to the Traffic and Vehicles Management Authority regarding the "mechanical inspection sector in Lebanon, which was one of the first sectors in Arab countries, and has completely ceased operations despite the urgent need to develop and regulate it outside the realm of contracts to protect public funds with the sole aim of safeguarding people's lives and vehicles on public roads."
It noted the "failure of this sector and the call to resume work in accordance with the latest international vehicle safety standards as soon as possible, as Lebanon's losses are irreplaceable due to the halt of this service for over two years."
It questioned: "After this incomprehensible and unjustified delay, what are the true reasons for the disruption of this sector and who benefits from it, especially since His Excellency the Minister of Interior and the Honorable Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority announced on May 15, 2023, the launch of a tender published on the public procurement site, highlighting its transparency and compliance with international standards."
Additionally, it asked the Minister of Interior and Municipalities: "Why is there such a significant mismanagement of most of the duties of the Traffic Management Authority in an unprecedented manner in Lebanon's history? What happened and how long will the current situation continue?"
