Gidon Sancho, a player for Borussia Dortmund, stated that he has not yet grasped his participation in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid, the Spanish champions, at the famous Wembley Stadium this Saturday. This comes after he faced difficulties securing playing time with Manchester United.
Sancho, 24, joined United from Dortmund for €85 million ($92 million) in August 2021 but struggled to make it into the starting lineup and returned to Germany on loan in January following a disagreement with coach Erik ten Hag.
Dortmund is aiming for its second Champions League title, having won it in 1997, and finished fifth in the Bundesliga this season.
In an interview with CNN published on Thursday, Sancho remarked, “To be fair, it felt unreal. Again, I haven’t absorbed it yet.” He added, “It’s crazy, you know, I don’t think anyone expected that - for me to be in the Champions League final, especially from where I came from? I’m really happy.”
Sancho also expressed excitement about playing against his former Dortmund teammate Jude Bellingham in the final and noted that he will be competing with fellow Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior for the Ballon d'Or.
