Israel Confirms, Egypt Denies Transfer of Rafah Crossing; Intensified Efforts to Stop the War

A high-ranking Egyptian source revealed that Cairo has intensified its communications over the past few hours with Israel and Palestinian factions in an attempt to revive stalled negotiations regarding a ceasefire in Gaza. According to the source, Egypt is trying to "overcome the obstacles facing the ceasefire agreement."

On the other hand, Egypt denied any approval to transfer the Rafah crossing or to build an alternative crossing, citing its rejection of the presence of the Israeli army on the Palestinian side. A senior Egyptian security source stated, "There is absolutely no truth to any Egyptian approval for transferring the Rafah crossing or building a new crossing near the Kerem Shalom crossing."

The source added that Cairo is firmly insisting on the complete withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing. Previously, Egypt had announced its rejection of the Israeli presence on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, asserting that it would not grant Tel Aviv legitimacy to control it.

In May, Diaa Rashwan, head of the Egyptian General Authority for Information affiliated with the presidency, told "Sky News Arabia" that Israel's control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing is "unjustified." He pointed out that "Cairo has specific principles regarding the crossing and rejects giving legitimacy to Israel's control over the Palestinian side and will not cooperate with them."
