Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will travel to Ankara tomorrow, Thursday, at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. The Turkish Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that the visit aims to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries and consult on several regional and international issues. This visit follows discussions that took place during the Turkish Foreign Minister's visit to Cairo last March. Çavuşoğlu noted the possibility of progress regarding the return of ambassadors from both countries to resume their duties after a decade-long rupture, saying, "It's time to take tangible steps. We can make steps during Shoukry's visit to appoint ambassadors." Çavuşoğlu visited Cairo last month after ten years of severed diplomatic relations following the ousting of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Shoukry also visited Turkey at the end of February to express Egypt's solidarity after the devastating earthquake and subsequent tremors that claimed the lives of more than 50,000 people in Turkey and Syria.
