The 33rd edition of the Dubai International Basketball Championship is set to take place from January 26 to February 4. This announcement was made during a meeting held today (Monday) at the Basketball Federation headquarters, chaired by Major General Ismail Al-Qurqawi, President of both the Arab and UAE Basketball Federations. During the meeting, a sponsorship contract was signed with Sama Events Organization Company and Prizma Public Relations.
Al-Qurqawi emphasized the importance of this prestigious sporting event in the Middle East, which has successfully continued for over three decades. He highlighted the cooperation of official entities and clubs in supporting the tournament, specifically mentioning the Dubai Sports Council, the General Authority for Sports, the National Olympic Committee, and Dubai Sports Channel, the exclusive broadcaster of the event. He expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Sports Council, for his patronage and support for the championship, as well as to Matar Al-Tayer, Vice President of the Council for his efforts.
Al-Qurqawi noted that "Arab players and the national team have greatly benefited from their participation in this tournament, which has helped them reach the finals of Asia and Africa and the World Cup.” He mentioned that our national team succeeded in winning the Gulf Championship during the GCC Games in Kuwait last year and reached the final stage in Asia this year.
He described the championship as "the most prestigious in the region," which has maintained its continuity through the support and attention of the Board of Directors and the cooperation of official entities and clubs, providing all the necessary means for its success. When asked about the timing of the tournament, he replied, "The timing is very suitable, and it has been determined in coordination with continental and Arab federations to avoid conflicts with the schedules of national teams and clubs."
Al-Qurqawi expects the upcoming edition to be outstanding due to the cooperation between the federation and the sponsoring entity, which has the expertise needed to achieve the desired successes, noting the excellent effort made by the organizing party in the previous edition.
Both Awad Sami, General Manager of Sama, and Isa Darwish, General Manager of Prizma, expressed their gratitude to Major General Ismail Al-Qurqawi and the Board of Directors for the trust they placed in the sponsoring entity, affirming their commitment to providing all necessary capabilities and efforts to ensure the success of the championship.
The meeting was attended by Deputy President of the Federation Abdul Latif Al-Fardan, Secretary General Salem Al-Mutawwa, Technical Director Dr. Munir Bin Habib, Federation Manager Mohammed Al-Hamadi, General Manager of Sama Abdullah Jassim, and General Coordinator Awad Sami.
