Escalation on the Southern Lebanese Borders: Casualties for Hezbollah, Airstrikes, and Displacement

On the third day of "Al-Aqsa Flood," the southern Lebanese borders ignited as Katyusha rockets were launched from Lebanese territory, leading to airstrikes targeting villages, including one house that was damaged. Mutual rocket fire resumed in the evening, resulting in fires and more than five casualties for Hezbollah. Sources reported that Hezbollah suffered over five fatalities due to Israeli shelling in southern Lebanon on Monday. Hezbollah later mourned the targeted members.

Israel ordered residents of settlements within 4 kilometers of the Lebanese border to enter shelters until further notice, especially after an Israeli site was targeted by an anti-tank Kornet missile, indicating a development likely to broaden the shelling. Earlier in the day, Israel announced it had killed several armed individuals attempting to infiltrate at the northern border while its helicopters launched strikes on various sites in Lebanon, targeting observation points belonging to Hezbollah.

The Israeli army stated in a statement that it "killed several militants" who crossed the border, noting that patrol operations were ongoing in the breach area. The army indicated receiving a report about several suspects infiltrating into Israeli territory from Lebanon, stating that they had deployed forces in the area. Hebrew media reported that "six Israeli soldiers were injured in the gunfire exchange" with the militants. "Al-Quds Brigades," the military wing of "Islamic Jihad Movement," claimed responsibility for the operation, indicating it resulted in the injury of seven Israeli soldiers.

In an evening statement, the Lebanese army reported that an officer sustained minor injuries as a result of Israeli shelling on an army center's yard near the town of Ramish. The Army's Orientation Directorate later indicated that "the outskirts of the towns of Al-Dahira and Aita al-Shaab and other border areas are subjected to aerial and artillery bombardment by the Israeli enemy." The army urged citizens to "take utmost precautions and avoid approaching areas adjacent to the borders for their safety."

Israeli warplanes bombed areas around the border town of Marwheen in response to a wave of Katyusha rockets launched from the Qulayla plain south of Tyre towards Israel. The Israeli aircraft targeted an unoccupied house in Al-Dahira, and artillery shells hit the outskirts of Al-Dahira, Yaroun, Marwheen, and Aita al-Shaab near the monk site.

Israeli artillery also bombarded the valleys near Zebqin and Qulayla with heavy shells, in addition to the border area of Al-Dahira extending to the towns of Marwheen, Al-Bustan, and Al-Zaloutiyah. The Israeli army reported that two shells were fired from Lebanon towards Israel, with one landing in Lebanese territory. A Hezbollah official stated that the party did not conduct any operations inside Israel after the Israeli army claimed its forces, supported by helicopters, killed several infiltrators from Lebanon, affirming "the continuation of patrol operations along the border."

Further reports indicated that several militants who crossed the border into Israeli territory were killed by Israeli defense forces. Helicopters continue airstrikes in the area, with more details to follow. Israeli television channel 13 reported at least two infiltrators were killed during a border clash. Information indicated that the number of injured Israeli soldiers at the Lebanese border has risen to six, including two in serious condition.

The Israeli army previously indicated that it had deployed forces to confront a potential infiltration from Lebanon and had called helicopters to deal with the infiltration attempt. The army stated, "A report has been received about the infiltration of several suspects into Israeli territory from Lebanese territory. Forces are deployed in the area."

Hezbollah mourned Hussam Muhammad Ibrahim, who fell today due to the Israeli aggression in southern Lebanon. The statement said, "With great pride and honor, the Islamic Resistance announces the martyrdom of the mujahid Hussam Muhammad Ibrahim 'Hussam Aitaroun' from the southern town of Aitaroun, who fell as a result of the Israeli aggression on southern Lebanon this afternoon." The military media of Hezbollah also announced the martyrdom of Ali Raef Fatouni "Haider" from the Zuqaq al-Blat neighborhood in Beirut, who fell due to the Israeli aggression on southern Lebanon today.

There are reports of injuries to the commander of the Israeli western sector in the clash with Hezbollah, in addition to seven other injuries, including a critical case. Hezbollah later mourned Ali Hassan Hadrj "Fida," from Beirut, Mohammad Hassan Mansour (from the southern town of Nasar), Bilal Hussein Madi, and Adam Amais. In retaliation for the killing of its members, Hezbollah shelled military barracks.

The Minister of Education, Abbas Halabi, announced the closure of public and private schools, secondary schools, and vocational schools on Tuesday in the districts adjacent to the southern borders due to the tension in the villages in those districts, fearing for the safety of teachers, students, and citizens.
