After a horrific crime that resulted in the deaths of a fertilizer company owner and his girlfriend, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Cairo decided on Saturday evening to imprison the suspects involved in the murder of the girl and her boyfriend in the Maasra area of Helwan for four days pending investigations. They also ordered the rapid arrest of two other fleeing suspects.
The story began when a girl fled her family home in the Fayoum Governorate to accompany the fertilizer company owner, who holds a doctorate, to Cairo. After her escape, her two brothers, along with two others, went to the crime location in al-Ma'sra in Helwan, armed with knives, and asked the building's guard to let them up to meet the fertilizer company owner under the pretext of having work appointments, which he allowed.
Once inside the apartment, the four suspects cornered the company owner and the girl, demanding that he marry her to protect her reputation, to which he refused. They then began to beat him, and one of them struck him with a "metal object," causing him to fall to the ground, after which they stabbed him until he took his last breath.
Seeing the grisly scene unfold, the young female victim attempted to escape, but they bound her movements and then one of them slit her throat, leaving her to bleed to death at their feet. When they fled the building in a panic, the building guard noticed and immediately went upstairs to investigate, receiving no response from the apartment's occupants. He enlisted the help of neighbors, and they broke down the door to find the two victims and reported it to the police, according to his statements during investigations.
After gathering information, reviewing security camera footage, examining the victims' relationships, and tracking the vehicle, security forces in Cairo and Fayoum managed to arrest four suspects involved in the incident. Preliminary investigations suggested that the crime was committed "for reasons of honor."
The prosecutor's office decided to assign forensic experts to perform autopsies on the bodies of the company owner and the girl, as well as to analyze the surveillance footage from the vicinity of the building. They also decided to imprison the suspects and arrest two additional individuals implicated in the case.
