Israeli official radio reported that "Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi approved military plans to confront an attack from Iran and Hezbollah." The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted a senior Israeli military official today, Tuesday, stating that "Lebanon is four times more worried than Israel, and if Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah makes a miscalculation and launches an asymmetric attack, Israel will have the opportunity to turn the tables," considering that "launching a war will change the reality in the north."
On another note, the Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv reported that Israeli Knesset member and one of the opposition leaders, Benny Gantz, said: "We will know how to withstand any attack, and the price that Iran and Hezbollah will pay will be extremely high." Gantz considered that "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet is unfit to complete its mission, and his government is incapable of achieving its goal."
Regarding the disagreement between Netanyahu and Gallant, he believed that "Israeli leadership cannot continue internal conflict in this manner." Gantz proposed setting an agreed-upon date for elections, which would relieve the Prime Minister of all political pressures.
Recent days have witnessed serious escalation and increased tension in the region following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and the killing of Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr in an Israeli airstrike targeting the southern suburb of Beirut.
