UEFA Excludes Club on the Brink of Bankruptcy

The UEFA Appeals Body has decided to exclude the Ukrainian club Dnipro-1 from the current UEFA Europa Conference League. UEFA imposed two technical defeats on Dnipro-1 in its matches against Hungarian club Puskás Academy, resulting in the team being eliminated from the second round of the Conference League qualifiers. Consequently, the Hungarian club advances to the next stage of the European qualifying tournament without playing any match. Ukrainian media reported on the financial problems faced by Dnipro-1, which was founded in 2015. The Premier League of Ukraine announced that representatives of national league clubs agreed to Dnipro-1's request to withdraw from the list of participants in local competitions. The Ukrainian Football Association also presented two options to replace the team in the country's first division. Dnipro-1 finished fourth in the domestic league last season, with its highest achievement being second place in the Ukrainian league in the 2022-2023 season.
