The Egyptian Ministry of Interior has clarified the truth behind a post circulating on the social media platform "Facebook" regarding the alleged kidnapping of a girl inside a microbus in Damietta Governorate. In a statement released today, Monday, the ministry said, "As part of the efforts of the Ministry of Interior's agencies to uncover the truth behind what has been circulated on Facebook, regarding a claim made by a woman on her personal account that while she was driving in New Damietta, she saw some people holding a girl suspected of being kidnapped inside a microbus and attacking her as she tried to call for help from citizens. Upon investigation, it was found that no reports had been filed regarding this issue."

The statement continued, noting that when questioning the account owner (a housewife residing in the jurisdiction of Damietta Police Station), she indicated that she saw the post in one of the groups on Facebook and shared it without verifying its accuracy.

The statement added: "By intensifying efforts in coordination with the General Security Sector, we were able to identify the owner of the microbus. When summoned, he stated that on the 25th of this month, he was with a musical band for an event, and on their way back, a member of the band was joking with the other band members. When asked, she confirmed the previous account."

Legal measures have been taken against the individual who published the false claim.
