Iranian media revealed that restrictions have been placed on the movements of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Sources informed "Iran International" that Ahmadinejad's movements are now limited. It was clarified that his entry and exit from his home are being monitored by security agencies. These restrictions were implemented after his return from a trip to northern Iran.
It is noteworthy that Ahmadinejad had previously registered his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for June 28. Shortly after submitting his candidacy on June 2, he emphasized that all of the country's problems could be resolved through constructive interaction with the world. The candidate, a former member of the Revolutionary Guard who first won the presidency in 2005 and served until 2013, expressed his readiness to take on the responsibility of building a "prosperous, free, and happy Iran."
However, on June 9, the Guardian Council of Iran approved the eligibility of six candidates, most of whom are conservatives, to run in the elections. The council permitted six individuals out of 80 who applied to run for the elections following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last May. The candidates are Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Mostafa Pur Mohammadi, Masoud Pezeshkian, Amir Hossein Qazizadeh, Ali Reza Zakani, and Saeed Jalili. The final list notably did not include prominent names such as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and former parliament speaker Ali Larijani, while it included only one candidate from the reformist camp, Pezeshkian.
