The residence of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, "Beit Al-Wasat," in Beirut, was filled this afternoon with thousands of official, popular, spiritual, military, party, health, cultural, media, sports, trade union, judicial, artistic, and civil society figures who came to offer condolences for the passing of Hajj Mustafa Ahmad Al-Hariri (Abu Nader). The family of the deceased, including his wife Bahia Al-Hariri and his sons Nader Al-Hariri and the Secretary-General of the Future Movement, Ahmed Al-Hariri, received condolences alongside Mr. Shafiq Al-Hariri and family members.
Among those who attended to offer condolences were: Prime Minister Najib Mikati and his spouse, former President Michel Sleiman and his spouse, previous prime ministers Fouad Siniora, Tammam Salam, and Hassan Diab, and former Deputy Prime Minister Elias Merhebi. Also present was a delegation from the Grand Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian led by Chief of Sunni Sharia Courts Sheikh Muhammad Asaf, as well as a delegation from the Supreme Islamic Shia Council headed by Deputy President Dr. Maher Hussein. Additionally, Sheikh Dr. Sami Abu Al-Muna, the Druze spiritual leader, attended with a delegation, along with Metropolitan of Beirut and its vicinity for the Orthodox Christians, Archbishop Elias Aoude, and other religious leaders.
Ministers who attended included Abdullah Boughab, Ali Hamieh, George Boushikian, Ziyad Makary, Hector Hajjar, and Amin Salam. Diplomats such as ambassadors from Russia Alexander Rodakov, France Hervé Magro, Britain Hamish Cowell, Egypt Alaa Moussa, Jordan Walid Al-Hadid, Iraq Abdel Ilah Al-Nasrawi, and a delegation from the US Embassy led by the head of the political and economic section Jimmy Omelia also offered condolences, alongside a number of other diplomatic figures.
Members of parliament present included Elias Hankach, Freid Bustani, Michel Moawad, Adnan Traboulsi, Bilal Hashimi, Ahmad Al-Khair, Freid Haikal Al-Khazen, Nada Bustani, Qassem Hashem, Selim Aoun, Jan Talouzian, Melhem Riachi, Walid Al-Ba’linni, Camille Chamoun, Muhammad Yahya, Ahmad Rostom, Ni'mat Afram, Jamil Aboud, Michel Dahar, Nabil Badr, Ihab Matar, Razi Al-Haj, Asaad Dargham, and Imad Al-Hout, along with many former ministers and MPs and Army Commander General Joseph Aoun leading a delegation.
Also in attendance were the head of the "Mard Movement" Sleiman Franjieh accompanied by MP Tony Franjieh, former Progressive Socialist Party head and MP Walid Jumblatt with his spouse, and Progressive Socialist Party MP Taymour Jumblatt heading a Democratic Gathering delegation. A delegation from Hezbollah included the political aide to the Secretary-General of the party, Hussein Khalil, along with Wafiq Safa and Mahmoud Kamati. A delegation from the Lebanese Forces party was present, led by former MP Joseph Issaq and the party’s Secretary-General Emil Makrzel.
Notable attendees also included Joseph Al-Qusifi, head of the editors’ syndicate, Antoine Habib, the General Director of the Housing Bank, General Tony Saliba heading a delegation from the General Security, Chief of Staff of the Lebanese Army, General Hassan Aouda, and many high-ranking military officials.
A delegation from the "Free Patriotic Movement" headed by Vice President Martin Najem Kitteli, a delegation from the Lebanese Kataeb Party represented by MP Sami Gemayel and led by Deputy President Michel Khoury along with former minister Alain Hakim, as well as the Secretary-General of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, MP Hagop Pakradounian, joined the attendees. Moreover, other political and communal leaders came to pay their respects.
