The Jordan Football Association has unexpectedly appointed Moroccan coach Jamal Salami as the new head coach of the national team, to lead the "Nashama" in upcoming challenges. Salami will replace his compatriot Hussein Ammouta, who recently parted ways with the Jordan Football Association by mutual consent, as announced last Saturday. The Jordanian association will introduce the new coach for the "Nashama" officially before the end of this month, and Salami's coaching staff will include assistants Omar Naghi and Mustafa Al-Khalfi, goalkeeper coach Ahmed Muhmedina, fitness coaches Jawad Sabri and Karim Malouch, as well as performance analysts Karim Idrissi and Marwan Lutfi.
Jamal Salami is 53 years old and is a professional Moroccan football coach, known for being one of the prominent midfield players in Morocco during the 1990s. Salami graduated from the training school of the Association of Milk Club (later known as Olympique Club de Casablanca) and was a player in the golden generation of this team, which managed to win several titles in the early 1990s in Moroccan league and the Cup of the Throne, as well as dominating the Arab Cup of Winners' Cup competition.
After Olympique Club merged with Raja Casablanca, Salami established himself as one of Morocco's best defensive midfielders, which helped him to be a key player in the Moroccan national team that participated in the 1998 World Cup under the guidance of French coach Henri Michel. Salami had a successful professional stint in Turkey with Beşiktaş, under Welsh coach John Benjamin Toshack, during which he played a total of 52 matches from 1998 to 2001. He concluded his playing career in Morocco in 2004, after playing one season with Raja and two seasons with Wydad Fes.
Salami started his coaching career at Raja as a youth team coach and then as an assistant coach for the first team. He then moved on to coach Ittihad Twerka and Hassania Agadir. His rise as a coach began at Difaâ El Jadidi, and later he joined the coaching staff that led the Moroccan national team between 2009 and 2010 alongside coaches Hussein Ammouta, Hassan Momen, and Abdel Ghani Banasri. He coached the Fath Rabat club from 2012 to 2014, where he achieved second place in the Moroccan league in the 2011–12 season, which was won by Moghreb Tétouan.
Salami then coached Hassania Agadir, Fath Rabat, and Difaâ El Jadidi, as well as the Moroccan youth national team and Raja, before returning to lead Fath Rabat, guiding them to a seventh-place finish in the last season's Moroccan league.
