Storms Disrupt Celebrations: National Mall Evacuated Ahead of Trump's Speech

U.S. authorities ordered the evacuation of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as severe storms approached the area, just hours before President Donald Trump's anticipated speech for the United States' 250th Independence anniversary.

The organizers of the "Freedom 250" events urged attendees to temporarily move to nearby buildings for shelter, in coordination with the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Park Police, National Park Service, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Danielle Alvarez, spokesperson for "Freedom 250," stated in a press release that "the safety of our guests, participating artists, and working teams is our top priority," explaining that the evacuation decision was made due to the approaching severe storms.

Designated shelter sites included the Department of Commerce, Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, the Internal Revenue Service, the Voice of America building, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, along with the National Museum of American History, National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the Ronald Reagan Building.

Organizers urged attendees to stay calm, follow law enforcement and event organizers' instructions, and check "Freedom 250"'s official channels for updates.

Alvarez confirmed that the organizers would announce any updates regarding the program and reopening of the sites.

The evacuation decision comes as Washington prepares to host large-scale events to commemorate 250 years of U.S. independence, including a speech by President Trump and public shows and celebrations.
