Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office stated on Thursday that Israel has made it clear there will be no reconstruction in Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed.
Netanyahu's office also denied reports that Israel had agreed to the deployment of international forces in Gaza, as reported by media outlets.
Despite former U.S. President Donald Trump describing a 'breakthrough' in the plan's trajectory in late July, implementation efforts stalled as Israel and Hamas remained firm in their positions.
Hamas claims to have agreed to the roadmap but ties its implementation to an Israeli withdrawal and cessation of attacks, while the Israeli government refuses to start reconstruction before the movement's disarmament.
The Trump administration informed Congress of its intention to allocate over $206 million to support the proposed peacekeeping force in the Gaza Strip, marking significant U.S. funding for its reconstruction plan amidst the war-torn sector.
According to notifications dated July 30, the U.S. State Department informed Congress it would provide $200 million to cover costs for equipment, infrastructure, vehicles, and operational expenses of the proposed international stability force. Additionally, approximately $6.3 million would be designated for repurposing American armored vehicles to support the force, according to Reuters.
This funding represents the first tangible American contribution to the project, reflecting the administration's commitment to Trump's roadmap for Gaza, despite ongoing disputes between Israel and Hamas over implementation terms.
Furthermore, in one of the notifications, the State Department noted that the stability force would undertake security operations, support disarmament, and ensure humanitarian assistance and reconstruction materials reach the sector. The final structure of the force remains under negotiation.
Trump had established a "Peace Council" to oversee his plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza and rebuilding the devastated sector. His plan envisages the deployment of a peacekeeping force in Gaza to secure areas vacated by Israeli forces, train new Palestinian police forces, and support aid delivery operations.
