Dozens of Sudanese migrants and asylum seekers have died after a boat carrying approximately 40 people sank off the coast of Tobruk, Libya.
The vessel was transporting entire Sudanese families, including a significant number of women and children, some of whom were infants only a few months old. These individuals hailed from Sudanese states and cities that have recently experienced direct conflict or severe humanitarian deterioration.
Libya's Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority had earlier detained 252 illegal migrants of various African nationalities.
The authority reported that during the security operation, the detainees were handled according to existing legal procedures and appropriate measures were taken against them, referring them to the relevant authorities as per applicable laws and regulations.
