In front of over 60,000 spectators, the Hungarian national team forced the world champion French team to a draw, marking one of the biggest surprises of the UEFA Euro 2020 so far. In the match between France and Hungary in Group F of the 2020 European Championship, the "Les Bleus" settled for a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Hungary opened the scoring in the 47th minute of the first half with a powerful shot from Attila Fiola. The French team struggled significantly until Kylian Mbappé capitalized on a defensive lapse, intercepting the ball and making a perfect cross to his teammate Antoine Griezmann, who equalized in the 66th minute.
The Hungarian defense held strong throughout the match, successfully neutralizing the threats posed by stars from France including Mbappé, Griezmann, Karim Benzema, and Paul Pogba, securing an important draw in the "group of death." France will face Portugal in the final round, while Hungary will play against Germany in Munich.
France's points tally rises to 4 at the top of the group, while Hungary earns its first point, noting that Portugal is set to face Germany later on Saturday.
