High-level representatives from the U.S. administration will meet with representatives of the Taliban (banned in Russia) in the coming days, marking the first such encounter since the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan. A Reuters correspondent tweeted, "An administration representative announced that a U.S. delegation including officials from the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and intelligence representatives will meet with a senior Taliban representative in Doha during the holiday." The Taliban seized most of Afghanistan following the rapid fall of cities and control over all border crossings, culminating in their entry into the presidential palace after President Ashraf Ghani fled to the UAE, as well as control of numerous government sites in the capital, Kabul, on August 15.
