The popular photo site "Instagram," owned by Facebook, announced on Monday that it is testing a new feature in response to major service outages that impacted the social media giant twice. The new Instagram feature will directly notify users about service interruptions or technical issues on the photo-sharing app. Instagram stated in a blog post that the testing will take place in the United States and will last for several months.
A service outage lasting six hours on October 4 prevented the company's 3.5 billion users from accessing social media and messaging services, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. Earlier on Monday, several users reported issues with Instagram, according to user reports on the internet monitoring group Downdetector. The company also plans to introduce a feature that will help users understand whether their accounts are at risk of being disabled.
