Iraq and UAE Sign Contract to Produce 1,000 Megawatts of Solar Power

Iraqi News Agency reported on Wednesday that Iraq and the UAE signed a contract to build five solar power plants in Iraq to generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity as a first phase. UAE Energy Minister Suhail Al-Mazrouei arrived in Baghdad earlier on Wednesday and met with his Iraqi counterpart to discuss bilateral cooperation in the oil and energy sectors. Iraqi Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul Jabbar stated at a joint press conference with Al-Mazrouei, "We aim to have the second 1,000 megawatts discussed soon; this first gigawatt does not meet our ambitions. We aspire for a second gigawatt to be achieved in the coming months."
