Dr. Amiran Dimurov, a specialist in ultrasound diagnostics and a vein surgeon at the "Research and Surgery of Veins" center, announced that the appearance of bruises on the body warrants a visit to the doctor. According to him, it's essential to understand what the blue spots under the skin signify, as their causes vary.
Some blue spots appear due to minor injuries or bruises, which lead to blood leaking from blood vessels and accumulating under the skin, as is usually the case. These blue spots typically disappear on their own, although this depends on their size.
In an interview with Radio "Sputnik," he stated, "If the spot is small, it will fade away on its own after 10-15 days or may disappear quickly due to the intake of certain medications. However, if the spot is large, a visit to a surgeon is necessary to determine whether it will resolve on its own and if it won't become infected."
He further notes that the use of blood-thinning medications increases the likelihood of blue spots appearing since even a minor and light bruise can lead to the development of large blue spots. He explains, "This occurs because bleeding continues for a longer period due to lower density and changes in its coagulation system. These spots do not indicate a need to stop taking blood-thinning medications unless the bleeding persists for a long time. However, the doctor has the right to discontinue them at any time."
The specialist points out that the emergence of varicose veins is reminiscent of blue spots, although their nature is entirely different. According to him, these "bad" blue spots, which form from fine blood vessels also referred to as spider veins or star-shaped, indicate a disorder in the blood coagulation system.
He says, "In this case, it is necessary to consult a vein surgeon and undergo an ultrasound examination to determine whether they are superficial or indicate a serious illness. If left untreated, they may lead to serious complications, such as thrombosis. Therefore, treating varicose veins upon their appearance is essential."
