The esteemed Jordanian artist Jamil Awad passed away on Thursday after a battle with illness, according to a post shared by former artists' syndicate president Sari Al-As'ad. Jamil Youssef Awad Al-Awad was a famous Jordanian actor born in Amman in 1937, known for his roles portraying authority and seriousness. He studied decoration engineering and worked as the head of the visual arts department at the Culture and Arts Directorate in 1964. He began working in Jordanian television during its launch in 1968, then left Amman, returning in 1974 to direct his first play, titled "The Absent." He was married to Jordanian actress Juliet Awad and, during his artistic career spanning over 40 years, he appeared in more than 200 television series and seven films.
