The government of the United Arab Emirates, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, announced at the UAE Pavilion during Expo 2020 Dubai the strategic initiative aimed at achieving climate neutrality by 2050. This initiative crowns the UAE's efforts to positively contribute to the issue of climate change and to turn challenges in this sector into opportunities that ensure a bright future for future generations.
In conjunction with the announcement, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, stated: "The UAE has announced today its goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050... Our developmental model will consider this goal... All institutions will work as one team to achieve it... The UAE will invest more than 600 billion dirhams in clean and renewable energy until 2050... and will play its global role in combating climate change."
For his part, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized: "With today's announcement of the goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, the UAE continues its active and influential role globally in the issue of climate change... and supports efforts for climate action and strengthens international cooperation to benefit from all economic and social opportunities." He added, "Through achieving climate neutrality in the UAE by 2050, we aim to develop a comprehensive government approach that ensures sustainable economic growth in the country... and sets an example for action and cooperation to ensure a better future for humanity."
