The Syrian Ministry of Information and the Artists' Syndicate announced today the passing of the great Syrian artist Sabah Fakhri. The late artist was born in Aleppo in 1933 and was awarded the Syrian Order of Merit of the Excellent Rank in 2007 in recognition of his significant and distinguished contributions to the service of authentic Syrian Arab music. He held several positions, including being elected as the head of the Artists' Syndicate, Vice President of the Arab Artists' Union, and Director of the Syrian Song Festival. He set a world record in singing when he performed in Caracas, Venezuela, for 10 consecutive hours in 1968.
