Facebook Pays Fine of 17 Million Rubles for Refusing to Remove Prohibited Content

The Federal Bailiff Service of Russia announced that Facebook has paid a fine of 17 million rubles (approximately 240,000 dollars) for refusing to remove prohibited content. The agency noted that it currently has no enforcement actions against Facebook. Since February, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has been issuing administrative protocols against social media sites and messaging services that refuse to remove posts violating Russian laws, particularly those calling for participation in unauthorized events.
