The Last Nail in Its Coffin: The Super League in the Past Tense

Andrea Agnelli, president of Juventus and a co-founder of the European Super League, said today, Wednesday, that the new competition is no longer sustainable after the withdrawal of six English clubs. In response to a question about the possibility of holding the tournament, Agnelli stated, "To be honest and frank, no... it is clear that this is not the case." Last Sunday, 12 major clubs in Europe announced the establishment of the Super League, but after 48 hours of criticism and political opposition, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea withdrew on Tuesday evening. Agnelli expressed his continued belief that European football needs change, asserting that he does not regret the approach taken to try to establish a breakaway competition. He added, "I am still convinced of the beauty of this project," considering it would have become "the best competition in the world." He continued, "But I admit that I do not believe this project will continue now and move forward."
