Libya's Prime Minister and Presidential Council Head Commit to Power Transfer if Fair Elections Are Held

Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh stated on Friday that he would transfer power if elections are conducted "in a consensual and fair manner among all parties." This statement was made by Dbeibeh during a press conference in Paris following an international conference on Libya. The head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, also stated during the press conference that the council would hand over power if the Electoral Commission "is able to organize parliamentary and presidential elections on December 24." Menfi added, "There is no disagreement on holding the elections on December 24." Global powers agreed during the conference that they would pressure for sanctions against any party or individual that obstructs the electoral process and political transition in Libya.
