The Egyptian ship Minsarouz sank northwest of the Greek island of Crete after splitting in two due to weather conditions. According to Egyptian media, all crew members survived after Greek rescue units rushed to assist. According to the local newspaper Al-Mal, the ship had departed from the port of Iskenderun in Turkey heading to Libya, carrying iron, when it split in two due to extremely high winds in the area. The ship is owned by several Egyptian businessmen from Damietta, and its crew consists of 12 members. The vessel sustained severe damage and fragmented because of the excessive weight it was carrying, marking it as the second of its kind to sink during the current winter season. Last December, the ship Sea Queen sank, resulting in the deaths of an Egyptian, an Indian, and a Syrian due to the adverse weather conditions in the Mediterranean Sea.
