Morocco Closes Airspace with 50 Countries

Morocco announced on Tuesday the suspension of flights with more than 50 countries, in an effort to mitigate the repercussions of the spread of mutated COVID-19 strains. The decision has raised concerns among those working in the tourism sector, while the government has attempted to alleviate the impact of the decision by supporting workers in this field and postponing their due contributions to the National Social Security Fund. According to Dr. Jamal Bouzidi, a specialist in respiratory and pulmonary diseases and president of the Moroccan Association for the Fight Against Tuberculosis, Morocco has successfully controlled the virus. However, the emerging mutated strains spreading in various countries are causing concern among Moroccan authorities. Bouzidi noted that these decisions are made in the public interest, similar to actions taken by many countries around the world, such as the UK and France. He pointed out that the setback experienced by citizens in Morocco during Eid al-Adha compelled authorities to implement several difficult measures to protect citizens from the pandemic, as reported by "Veto" website.
