U.S. Federal Reserve: Interest Rate Increase Not Coming Soon

Jerome Powell, Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve, stated today that an increase in interest rates is not close.

He rejected the suggestion that the central bank would soon begin to taper bond purchases. In an online interview with a professor from Princeton University, Powell indicated that the economy is still far from the Fed's goals and that he sees no justification for deviating from the accommodative monetary policy until the task is completed thoroughly.
