New Zealand health authorities have launched an investigation following claims that a man was vaccinated against COVID-19 up to ten times in one day, according to local media reports.
The "Stuff" news website reported today that the man is believed to have received money for getting vaccinated on behalf of other people. In New Zealand, citizens are not required to disclose their identities when receiving the vaccine.
Astrid Korner, the director of the vaccination program, told "Stuff" that the country’s health ministry is taking this matter seriously. She added, "We have concerns about this situation and are working with relevant authorities."
She continued, "Having inaccurate vaccination records not only puts you at risk but also exposes your friends, family, community, and the healthcare teams who are currently treating you to risks in the future."
Approximately 89% of New Zealand’s citizens have been fully vaccinated. The country, with a population of five million, has reported around 12,500 cases and 46 deaths since the pandemic began.
