The investigative committee, which was ordered to be formed by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, has commenced its work to uncover the circumstances and repercussions that led to casualties among protesters and security forces. Meanwhile, Qais Al-Khazali threatened Al-Kadhimi with retaliation after his supporters were expelled from the Green Zone. Al-Kadhimi had ordered the formation of an investigation committee that includes popular mobilization security members to examine the events that occurred during Friday's protests. The committee will hold accountable those who are negligent, especially those who violated the commander-in-chief's orders not to use live ammunition under any circumstances. Al-Kadhimi has also decided to compensate the victims and personally oversee the investigation and necessary measures.
At the same time, the leader of the militia "Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq," one of the prominent factions within the Iraqi popular mobilization, vowed to respond to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi after the expulsion of Al-Khazali's supporters and the supporters of the election losers from the gates of the Green Zone. This comes as the UN mission in Iraq expressed regret over the escalation of violence and injuries among those protesting the election results and security forces at the entrances to the Green Zone. The UN mission called on all parties to exercise restraint and to stop the violence during the protests. An Iraqi security source reported to "AFP" that a protester was shot dead during the protests in Baghdad, without specifying whether the security forces were responsible for the gunfire. This comes as Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi held meetings with security leaders following the clashes between protesters protesting the election results and security forces at the gates of the Green Zone. According to the Iraqi Ministry of Health, hospitals recorded over 120 injuries, mostly among security forces.
