Algerian journalist Hassan Bouras has been placed in preventive detention on Sunday for allegedly "glorifying terrorism," according to one of his lawyers. Abdel Ghani Badi told AFP that Bouras was accused of "belonging to a terrorist organization, glorifying terrorism, and conspiring against state security with the aim of changing the system of governance." The journalist was detained after being interrogated by an investigating judge at the Sidi Muhammed court in Algiers and is also facing charges of "using technological and media means to recruit individuals against state authority," as stated by his lawyer. Bouras was arrested on September 6, and his home in the Béchar region (northwest) was searched. In 2016, Bouras was sentenced to a year in prison for charges related to "participating in insulting a judge, participating in insulting law enforcement officials, and participating in insulting a statutory authority."
