Sudan Engages in Talks with Ethiopia to Purchase 1,000 Megawatts of Electricity

The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported on Friday, citing the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, that the government is in discussions with Ethiopia to buy 1,000 megawatts of electricity. The agency noted that Sudan is already importing about 200 megawatts of electricity from Ethiopia, which represents about ten percent of its needs. There is a dispute between Ethiopia and both Sudan and Egypt regarding the multimillion-dollar Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project that Addis Ababa is building on the Blue Nile for electricity generation.
