The Jordan News Agency reported on Saturday that Jordan will start vaccinating children aged 12 and older against COVID-19 starting Sunday. The agency cited the Ministry of Health stating that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine can be administered to children with parental consent and does not require an appointment. This decision comes as Jordan lifted most restrictions at the beginning of July and reopened gyms, swimming pools, and nightclubs in hotels after cases declined from their peak in March, when thousands of new infections were being reported daily. On Friday, there were 331 new infections and four deaths. Since the onset of the pandemic, Jordan has recorded a total of 763,437 infections and 9,933 deaths. Several other countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Israel, are also vaccinating children.
