The President of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdulrahman al-Asoumi, called for the formulation of a strategic vision for Arab media to serve the interests of the region's peoples and to keep pace with current challenges and changes in the Arab media landscape. He emphasized the crucial role of media in promoting moderate religious discourse and combating terrorism.
In a statement today on the occasion of Arab Media Day, al-Asoumi highlighted the importance of enhancing collaboration to confront electronic terrorism via websites and social media platforms, and to protect society from the dangers of negative publishing on these platforms. This is due to the pivotal role these platforms play in countering destructive ideas, combating terrorism, and promoting concepts of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, all to safeguard the real treasure of the Arab world, which is its youth, who make up the majority of the digital media audience.
The Arab Parliament President stressed the need to activate the Arab Media Code of Ethics and to uphold accuracy and credibility in all forms of Arab media communication, including statements, information, and news, and the necessity of obtaining them from primary sources. He called for deepening the spirit of tolerance and brotherhood while rejecting all claims of bias, discrimination, and extremism.
