The residents of Ismailia governorate in Egypt participated in the funeral of the victim, who was decapitated on Al-Bahari Street. The surprising aspect was the participation of some of the deceased's relatives in the procession. The body was carried out from Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, where his relatives, neighbors, and friends performed the afternoon prayers for him. The locals refused to place the coffin inside a funeral car and instead carried it on their shoulders, walking long distances through the streets until they laid him to rest.
The funeral saw a heavy presence of security forces to ensure its safety and prevent any clashes between the families of the victim and the perpetrator. In an unexpected turn, reports emerged about the presence of some relatives of the perpetrator during the funeral, which left some attendees in shock. The accused, known as "Dabour," reenacted the crime at the scene on Al-Bahari Street in the Second District of Ismailia. A team from the public prosecution accompanied the suspect to the crime scene, where he reenacted the incident in the presence of security leaders and public prosecution officials. The street was completely closed to vehicles and pedestrians until the reenactment was concluded.
According to Egyptian newspapers, the accused provided detailed confessions about the gruesome crime that shook Ismailia. Public Prosecutor Hamada El-Sawy ordered a swift conclusion to the investigations into the killing and the wounding of two others on the public road in Ismailia. A team from the public prosecution visited the crime scene to inspect it and examine the body, and the prosecution will announce the findings of the investigations.
The Ministry of Interior had earlier reported the arrest of a mentally unstable individual in Ismailia, who had previously been detained in a rehabilitation facility for addiction treatment. He attacked a worker with a cleaver, resulting in decapitation, while mumbling incomprehensible words. Investigations revealed that he had worked in a furniture store owned by the brother of the deceased.
The Second District Prosecution in Ismailia ordered the detention of the suspect for 15 days in connection with the case of the man in his fifties whose head was severed and who walked around with it in front of passersby during the day, instilling fear among them, while under investigation.
The incident has shocked Egypt as it involved a young man decapitating another openly in the street. Multiple videos taken by bystanders showed the killer striking the victim's neck with a bladed weapon until he severed it, with no one intervening due to the horror of the scene. The young man was seen repeatedly striking the victim with a large knife, pausing briefly, then continuing. After decapitating him, he calmly walked down the street holding the head in one hand, displaying it to passersby before putting it in a plastic bag, while also attacking several bystanders with the large knife, which enraged the locals, leading them to chase him down until he was apprehended and handed over to the police.
