Tobacco Farmers Warn of Disaster!

Tobacco farmers in Akkar called on officials to consider their catastrophic situations that are pushing them to leave their land due to the rising cost of living and high expenses of agriculture and labor during a symbolic stand they held amidst the seedlings in Akkar plain. Speaking on their behalf, Fadlallah Sheikh said, "We are at a dangerous crossroads today; the seedlings are in the ground, and the season is approaching, and we need workers daily."

He highlighted the "rising prices of medicines, fertilizers, and fuels," demanding that "the Tobacco and Tobacco Regie Management buy the harvest at encouraging prices that cover the farmers' costs; otherwise, the disaster will be significant, and farmers are threatened with abandoning their land." Additionally, farmers explained their "difficult circumstances," asserting that "the tobacco season is one of the important seasons we look forward to from year to year, relying on it as a primary source of livelihood in our lives."
