Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief medical advisor to the U.S. president, emphasized the need to address the monkeypox outbreak with greater seriousness and rigor. Fauci stated to CNN, "We definitely need to take the monkeypox outbreak seriously. We do not yet know its extent and potential, but we must act on the basis that it has the ability to spread much more widely than its current distribution." He underscored the importance of expanding testing for the disease and managing the outbreak in a more stringent manner, noting that up to 700,000 vaccines against the disease will be distributed to various states by the end of July.
