Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi stated that the explosions from yesterday are an unacceptable breach that will not be allowed to recur, highlighting a problem that must be addressed urgently.
According to Al-Mayadeen TV, Al-Kadhimi mentioned that Iraq faces challenges within the intelligence agencies that need to be dealt with immediately, adding that he will personally oversee this matter. Al-Kadhimi emphasized that the security institution should not be subjected to the conflicts of political parties, noting that a series of changes have been made to the security and military structure and that work is ongoing to establish a comprehensive and effective security plan. He added, "Those who do not rise to the level of responsibility for protecting citizens must step aside," revealing that there are daily attempts by ISIS to reach Baghdad that have been thwarted through preemptive operations.
It is noteworthy that consecutive explosions shook the area near Al-Tayaran Square and Al-Bab Al-Sharqi in central Baghdad yesterday, with the Iraqi Ministry of Health reporting 32 martyrs and 110 injured as a result of the suicide bombings that occurred in a popular market in Baghdad.
