Truce Between Islamic Jihad and Israel Takes Effect

The truce between Israel and the Islamic Jihad movement took effect through Egyptian mediation following an agreement to cease fire that began at 11:30 PM on Sunday. The agreement calls for a comprehensive and mutual cessation of hostilities between Israel and the Islamic Jihad movement. The agreement also stipulates that Egypt will ensure the release of prisoner Khalil Awawda and his transfer for medical treatment, as well as the release of prisoner Bassam Al-Saadi. An Egyptian official stated that Cairo calls for a comprehensive and mutual ceasefire starting from 23:30 PM Palestinian time (10:30 PM Cairo time). In the minutes following the truce, there were exchanges of shelling between the Israeli army and the Al-Quds Brigades despite both parties agreeing to its implementation. The UN envoy for the Middle East, Tor Wennesland, confirmed that the situation between Israel and the Palestinian factions remains fragile, urging all parties to respect the ceasefire.
