First Missile Attack on US Forces in Iraq During Biden's Term

Four rockets targeted the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport early this morning.

Sputnik news agency, citing Iraqi media, reported "hearing explosions in the vicinity of Baghdad Airport, west of the Iraqi capital," suggesting that "the explosions were caused by the fall of at least four Katyusha rockets, one of which landed on a house in the Al-Jihad neighborhood near the airport." A video shared on social media showed flashes of light from a response operation to the missile attack targeting the airport by the air defense system at the US military's Victory Base. This missile attack is the first to target US forces in Iraq during President Joe Biden's term, who officially took office last Wednesday, just about three days ago. The attack on Baghdad Airport comes at a time when the Iraqi government is continuing security operations to capture elements and cells of the ISIS organization in Iraqi territory, which is still capable of carrying out attacks in multiple locations, despite the losses it has suffered in recent years.
