Deputy Michel Daher announced his resignation from the Executive Committee of the Higher Council of Greek Catholics.
The National News Agency reported this evening that Deputy Michel Daher submitted his resignation from the Executive Committee of the Higher Council of Greek Catholics through a letter addressed to Patriarch Joseph Absi. Daher had hinted at his resignation in a statement issued last Saturday, which came today immediately after a meeting of the committee.
In his statement, Deputy Michel Daher expressed, "It pains me to witness the dispute within the Greek Catholic community regarding the elections for the Higher Council of the community, and the political and personal retaliations taking place at a time when the Lebanese, including Catholics, are suffering from significant living crises."
He added, "Therefore, I see it as my duty to call upon Patriarch Joseph Absi, in light of the obstacles faced in holding the elections for the Higher Council due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to dissolve the Higher Council by calling for a collective resignation of its members and to immediately work on amending its law on one hand, and on the other hand to unify the community, in preparation for new elections. Otherwise, I will find myself, in line with my convictions, compelled to resign from the Higher Council."
