Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that his country "will not concede on the issue of Finland and Sweden joining NATO" after the two countries officially submitted their candidacies, according to the French Press Agency.
Erdogan questioned: "How can we trust them? Sweden is a haven for terrorist organizations; we will not concede on the membership of those who impose sanctions on Turkey into NATO," reiterating that the aforementioned northern European countries "show leniency towards the PKK militants," which Ankara classifies as a terrorist organization.
