Volcanic Eruption in Japan

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported the eruption of Sakurajima volcano on Kyushu Island in southwestern Japan. The agency added that the danger level in the volcano area has been raised to level three on a scale of five. Surveillance camera images in the area show thick smoke rising from the volcano's crater. Local media have not yet provided details about the repercussions of the eruption. Sakurajima is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan, and eruptions occur regularly; it is located on a peninsula in a bay near the large city of Kagoshima. The mountain stands at about 1,100 meters tall.
